‘Married At First Sight’ Just Salvaged A Couple From The Wrecks Of 2 Others

Married At First Sight is an ‘experiment’ in the same way a four-year-old deciding to microwave a rock is an experiment: there’s little useful data to be extracted, outside of the fact shit is destined to blow up.

Yet, the fact the show clings to that paper-thin pretence of scientific rigour is perhaps the most entertaining part of the whole deal.
Time after time, the show throws to experts who extol tiny pieces of conventional wisdom that it wants you to believe are the secret to forming true connections – and First Sight continued to do so after two of its pre-packaged ‘marriages’ went busto.
Tonight, the show deemed it fit to allow Cheryl and Andrew to have themselves a date.
The thing is, they’re both halves of some of the most catastrophically bad couplings in the show’s history. So-called “entrepreneur” Jon was kinda horrific for Cheryl from the get-go, and Andrew’s partner straight-up bolted one day in.

So, when expert John Aiken claimed their impromptu match-up still fell within the confines of the show’s ‘experiment’, it may have just been the wildest thing Channel Nine’s reality TV monstrosity has ever put forth.

Goddamn, we do kind of admire the audacity, though.

FWIW, the two seemed to hit it off. Good on ’em. If they get even closer in the next instalment, expect the powers that be to claim full credit for this serendipitous, show-saving aberration from the norm.
