Mark Hamill Says Luke Skywalker Could Be Gay, If You Want Him To Be

To be honest, when watching the original Star Wars films, the question of Luke Skywalker‘s sexuality never really crossed my mind, but evidently, Mark Hamill is quizzed about it all the time.
This week, he gave the coolest goddamn answer he could possibly give to the question of whether Luke is gay, telling fans that the Jedi hero’s sexuality is anything they want it to be, and they can interpret it any way they like.
In a recent interview with The Sun, Hamill said “I just read online that JJ is very open to that,” in reference to producer JJ Abrams‘ recent statement that the Star Wars universe is 100% open to gay characters.
He then gave his own view on the matter, and on his beloved character, saying:
“In the old days you would get fan mail … But now fans are writing and ask all these questions, ‘I’m bullied in school… I’m afraid to come out’.”

“They say to me, ‘Could Luke be gay?’ I’d say it is meant to be interpreted by the viewer. … If you think Luke is gay, of course he is. You should not be ashamed of it. Judge Luke by his character, not by who he loves.”
Well, if we needed another reason to love Star Wars, that’s probably it.
Mark Hamill is currently filming Star Wars: Episode VIII with director Rian Johnson. The film is scheduled to come out in December 2017, which is a reaaaaaaaaaaaally long time to wait.
