Here’s a new reason to get behind gun control. A man in Colorado woke up at 2am on Tuesday morning to a loud bang. While sleepwalking, he had shot himself in the knee with the 9 millimeter handgun he keeps on this bedside table. Boulder police said the man, named Sanford Rothman, called them and said he woke up to a loud bang and could not clearly recollect how he came to be shot in the left knee.

Bizkit the Sleepwalking Running Dog taught everyone that sleepwalking can be dangerous to your person; but did you also know that bouts of it can last for up to 30 minutes. What happens if you murder someone while sleepwalking? Are there laws for that? In the 1963 case Bratty v. Attorney-General for Northern Ireland, Lord Morris of Borth-y-Gest stated, “Each set of facts must require a careful examination of its own circumstances, but if by way of taking an illustration it were considered possible for a person to walk in his sleep and to commit a violent crime while genuinely unconscious, then such a person would not be criminally liable for that act.”
