Can females play serious contact sport? You bet! In an attempt to dispel the whole “weaker sex” myth, American Mitch Mortaza started up a women’s 7-on-7 tackle American football league in 2009 that has become a global phenomenon: The Lingerie Football League (LFL) is full contact grid iron for females, in which contestants wear uniforms consisting of shoulder pads, elbow pads, knee pads, garters, bras, panties, and protective helmets. And get ready, guys, because it’s heading to Australia!
Touted with the line: “It’s fast and it’s explosive. It’s Football… but not as you know it… and nowhere near as ugly!” the whole concept really puts the “offense” into offensive formation.
The LFL is gathering the best players across the league to play in the “Australian All-Fantasy Game Tour” in June 2012, which will be the first live exhibition of the sport to be held here. Mortaza says, “This is truly a significant moment in the short history of the league as we take our first step toward introducing Aussies to LFL Football and the eventual premiere of LFL Australia in 2013.”
