Game of Thrones viewers have had time to grieve and process the end of the fantasy series, but that doesn’t mean viewers have necessarily warmed to the narrative decisions made in the final season. It doesn’t mean the show’s stars have either, and Lena Headey reckons Cersei Lannister should definitely have died in a cooler way.
Speaking to The Guardian, the actor refused to offer out-and-out criticisms of the final season, which has been labelled the worst of the lot. Instead, she says she intends to tell showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff that the Lannister matriarch shouldn’t have been crushed under rubble with incestuous brother Jaime (Nicolaj Coster-Waldau).
“I will say I wanted a better death,” the star said.
While she is yet to “drunkly” sit down with the folks behind Game of Thrones‘ contentious final outing, Headey says she is still in a big WhatsApp group chat with other “Throners.”
“It’s hilarious. You can tell who’s been drinking on that one,” Headey said. Considering the wine-in-hand Thrones commentary made by Headey’s co-star Sophie Turner, there’s no reason to doubt her claims.
