Oh my god, we’ve been BLESSED. Okay earlier today I wrote about Netflix’s new romcom Falling Inn Love and if you haven’t seen its trailer then just know it’s a cheese, wine, and chatter flick. But now… we’ve copped a proper Christmas romcom – a masterpiece, an absolute SAVE-THE-DATE sticheroo here. It’s called Last Christmas and it stars Mother of Dragons Emilia Clarke and my husband Henry Golding.
Last Christmas, inspired by the Wham! classic of the same name, introduces us to the lovely Kate (Clarke). Like the very best of us she makes a lot of awful decisions in life, and works as an elf in a year-round Christmas shop in London. It’s truly Struggle Town for Kate so when handsome man Tom (Golding) walks into her life, she thinks he’s just too good to be true. These two shouldn’t work… but it is the most magical time of the year.
The film comes from A Simple Favour and Bridesmaids director Paul Feig, and co-stars queen of my heart Michelle Yeoh and queen of my soul Dame Emma Thompson.
Thompson also wrote the screenplay with playwright Byrony Kimmings.
Last Christmas features the titular Wham! song as well as unreleased music by the legendary Grammy-winning George Michael.
Last Christmas will hit Aussie cinemas November 7. I checked.
YES. YES. YES. YES. YES.
As for Falling Inn Love, that baby hits Netflix August 29. That’s a Thursday if you want to go ahead and lock it in. The film has all our telltale signs of a Hallmark-esque beauty. There’s the newly single Gabriela (Christina Milian), a ridiculous competition to win a “rustic” inn in New Zealand, a handsome as hell contractor / volunteer firefighter played by Aussie actor Adam Demos, and there’s a cute goat for some extra “AWWWWs”.
