Kurt Russell Stars As Santa Claus In The Latest Netflix Christmas Monstrosity

In news you did not expect to be reading today, Kurt Russell is starring in one of Netflix‘s extremely good Christmas movies, The Christmas Chronicles. If Kurt Russell had starred in A Christmas Prince, I may have actually watched it.

The 67-year-old daddy screen legend, star of Silkwood, Big Trouble in Little China and The Hateful Eight, is taking on his most difficult role yet, Santa Claus.

It’s one of those delightful kids movies, with two charming children sneaking into Santa’s sleigh and fkn ruining everything when they cause Santa to crash his usually very reliable vehicle. So they must join forces with Santa and his Elves to SAVE CHRISTMAS. A tried and true holiday format there.

The movie’s director Clay Kaytis (The Angry Birds Movie) says Russell’s beard in the film is 100% real, which we totally believe. He also describes Russell’s Santa as “rugged” and “charismatic“, so we’re assuming that we’re not getting another Tim Allen or John Goodman style Santa. He wont even be a Paul Giamatti Santa. No, Russsell be a ~coooooooool~ Santa.

Producer Chris Columbus, the director of Home Alone and the OG Harry Potter, has some lofty ambitions for the project: “Kurt is the definitive Santa Claus. Charismatic, tough when needed with a wicked sense of humour. We’re really excited for audiences to see his performance onscreen and hope The Christmas Chronicles becomes a timeless classic.”

Anyway, from this teaser we learn that Russell’s Santa loves jazz and that the creators of this definitely quality film presentation managed to squeeze a car chase in there. An impressive festive feat.

Those animated elves look like something straight outta hell though.

You can thirst after Kurt Russell’s Santa in The Christmas Chronicles on Netflix from September 22.
