Know Why The Red Wheel Of Death Is Upon You W/ Netflix’s New Speed Test

Truly one of the most accursed sights is the rotating red Netflix buffering wheel – a sad indictment of either Australia‘s faltering web infrastructure or the fact that your deadshit housemate is streaming Ultra HD porno while you’re trying to watch Charmed. Either/or.

It’s known that Netflix likes to put the boot into ISPs that it believes aren’t carrying their weight for subscribers, and now they’ve got a tool to let ya know if your speeds aren’t up to scruff (hint: they are not). Obviously tools like this exist already – think Speedtest.net – but this one looks a lot simpler, cleaner, and might be a good one to send to your folks.
Also, seeing as it connects directly with Netflix’s servers to check the speeds, it’s also a good way to pinpoint if your internet is having specific problems with the service.
Check out the very appropriately named Fast.com HERE.
But yeah. It doesn’t give you all the info that some comparable services give you – it’s basically just for download speeds. But if you’re seeing that spinning red wheel and you also want to become an unwilling footsoldier in Netflix’s PR war against slow internet… well there ya go.
