For those of you keen to follow up on Kit Harington in his non-GoT form, but you also cry heaps when you see blood, then perhaps you should not watch his new BBC historical drama Gunpowder.
According to numerous reports from the English media, the Brits have been deeply, deeply scandalised by the gore in the show, which chronicles the Gunpowder Plot, the plan by Guy Fawkes to blow up English Parliament back in 1605.
The Guardian is here with the scoop on what exactly went down in episode one that has the Poms clutching their pearls like their lives depend on it:
The opening episode contained close-up scenes of a young priest being hung, drawn and quartered and a woman stripped naked before being crushed to death by a stone slab, prompting complaints from viewers.
Sounds pleasant. Well, viewers on Twitter had somewhat mixed responses to the bloody horror transpiring on-screen:
This execution scene is one of the most painful things I’ve ever witnessed on TV #Gunpowder

#BBC #Gunpowder too much violence, too much gore. Not entertainment. #disgusting

Other fans didn’t agree, thinking that blockbuster history TV shows need to show all the guts and glory of history.
“I hate gore on TV,” one fan wrote. “But the execution scene in its entirety was absolutely necessary on Gunpowder. Violent times. Let’s not sugar coat it.”
Yeah, bloody righto, tough guy.
The show aired at 9:30pm on Saturday in the UK, which was apparently still far too early for some. Bring it over to Australia, mates. Air it at 6:30pm for all we care. We can bloody handle it.
