Earlier today, the US Senate voted in favour of controversial Judge Brett Kavanaugh‘s nomination to the Supreme Court, a position he will now be eligible to hold for a lifetime. While it remains to be seen what effect Donald Trump‘s preferred nominee will have on the future direction of the court, one person who is feeling the heat today is a Kentucky man by the very similar name of Brett Kavanagh.
Kavanagh is a member of that excusive and extremely unlucky club of people who share identical or very similar names with contentious public figures – a bit like Peter Dutton, the US popcorn maker who was inundated with Tweets from angry Australians at around the time of the recent Liberal leadership spill.
Earlier today, he Tweeted that “this is a terrible time to be named Brett Kavanagh”, and yeah, look, it’s quite obviously a terrible time for a lot of people – not least of all those who are worried about the future of US reproductive rights and gun control – but this guy’s certainly has his own unique problem.

Since he made his Tweet, a number of other people have come forward to share their similar predicaments. One of these people is Pennsylvania man Matt Lauer, who awkwardly shares a name with the disgraced TV star:
Make sure to set aside an extra 5 minutes in the checkout line for all the questions that’ll inevitably be asked. Speaking from experience…

“Welcome to the club brother” said a Mike Pence, who identifies himself as the “good Mike Pence”, for fairly obvious reasons:

A Sean Spicer from Dallas offered to start a support group:

“I too understand the pain”, said Alex Jones:

A Will Smith from San Francisco also came forward – that’s certainly a far cuter and cuddlier celebrity than some of these others, but it still probably gets annoying from time to time:
I’m so sorry.

There are numerous others in his Twitter mentions but you get the idea.
