Support also came from Twitter, with celebrities like Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi and Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham offering their love to Van Ness.

“Thanks so much for your support so far,” he wrote in his Instagram post, “it means the world.”

In the Times profile, Jonathan Van Ness opened up about the “devastating” day he received his diagnosis, before saying he’s now a proud “member of the beautiful HIV-positive community.”

He went on to talk about his decision to speak out, saying:

“When Queer Eye came out, it was really difficult because I was like, ‘Do I want to talk about my status?’ And then I was like, ‘The Trump administration has done everything they can do to have the stigmatization of the L.G.B.T. community thrive around me. I do feel the need to talk about this.”
