The winners of the 2nd AACTA International Awards were announced earlier this morning at a trés casual luncheon in West Hollywood. Dress code: t-shits are cool; sure, I mean, why the hell not?
Fresh from a “cool workout” earlier that morning [50 min walk, 20 mins stat bike, 25 mins shoulder routine], newly-appointed AACTA emcee and Britney’s No. 1 gal pal, Russell Crowe, played the consummate host to an audience that included God amongst producers, Harvey Weinstein, Les Misérables director and Oscar-nominee, Tom Hooper and Natalie Imbruglia (?)
Other attendees included cuckolded AACTA host Hugh Sheridan, Kieran Darcy-Smith, and the man who put the Dick in Liz, Grant Bowler.
David O. Russell’s bipolar festival darling, Silver Linings Playbook, secured five of the seven awards handed out at the ceremony, including Best Direction, Best Film and Best Lead Actress for a pneumonia-struck Jennifer Lawrence. Two ‘discretionary awards’ determined by the Australian Film Institute were also presented to her co-stars Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver for their supporting roles in the offbeat family drama.
Academy Award-nominated Best Actor, Daniel Day Lewis, won Best Actor for his Best Actor role in Lincoln: The Best Acting President over antipodean golden boy Hugh Jackman. Quentin Tarantino took home a gold statuette for his Django Unchained screenplay and Best Fist Bump.
The actual AACTA Awards take place this Wednesday, January 30th, at The Star in Sydney. The awards will be telecast live on Network Ten.
