Disaster movies go overboard on the ‘disaster’ aspect up so often, it’s easy to become desensitised to watching the Earth be cleaved right open. Countless brawny blokes have saved the masses as they dangle out of helicopters, heroically divert lava, and generally throw themselves into harm’s way in barely-believable scenarios.
That’s what makes the recently-released trailer for Deepwater Horizon so interesting. Exploding oil rigs aren’t sexy, but by God, was the 2010 explosion of the eponymous drill-site a real. Bloody. Disaster.
While the planet is still actually dealing with the continual affects of the largest man-made disaster in history, Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, Kate Hudson and John Malkovich have come together for what looks like the tensest film about oil since There Will Be Blood.
The events that followed the oil rig’s explosion are common knowledge, but seeing all of that shit go down on-deck looks promising indeed. Gush on it below:
