Foxtel Courting Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman For New Series On “Lawyer X”

Just days after the big identity reveal of Lawyer X as the gangland lawyer turned police informant Nicola Gobbo, Foxtel has said that they’ve commissioned an eight-part series based on her life – and reportedly, they have both Nicole Kidman and Margot Robbie in talks to play the lead.

Clearly not satisfied with just two of Australia‘s most famous actresses, they’ve apparently also got Naomi Watts, Elizabeth Debicki and Asher Keddie on the list to play the lawyer.

It’s a wild story that’s well deserving of a dramatic series, which according to Foxtel executive producer Brian Walsh will feature “cops, crims, capers, sex and betrayal“. (Must we say “crims”? We must, apparently.)

Nicola Gobbo was unveiled on Friday as the mysterious “Lawyer X”, also known as Informer 3838, a gangland lawyer who’d passed information about her clients, including Carl Williams, to police for several years up to 2009. It’s believed she was paid significant sums for her cooperation.

Her identity had been suppressed for years due to the huge risk her reveal would pose to her life and the life of her two children.

This suppression was lifted by the High Court after judges said it was “essential in the public interest for the information to be disclosed“, although a trial judge has asserted that the 46-year-old now faces “almost certain risk of death or harm“.

Gobbo and her children have immediately gone into hiding.
