First Round Of 2013 AACTA Nominees Announced


The first round of tall poppies nominees competing in the only Australian film and television night of nights not determined by TV Week readers has been announced with more to come in the following weeks. Eight short-form nominees for this year’s AACTA Award for Best Short Animation and Best Short Fiction Film have been unveiled as well as the 15 films comprising the longlist of entrants eligible to compete in this year’s Best Film category, won in previous years by Red Dog and The Sapphires

With all due respect to the other films listed, that duel shapes to be a two horse race contested between Baz Luhrmann’s dazzling The Great Gatsby adaptation – likely to sweep all the technical awards – and the omnibus adaptation of author Tim Winton’s short story collection, The Turning, augmented by the award-winning presence of Cate Blanchett plus the directorial debuts of Mia Wasikowska and David Wenham.

The shortlist will be announced at the 3rd AACTA Awards
Nominations Announcement later in 2013. Winners will be announced in
Sydney at the 3rd annual AACTA Awards in January.
