FN-2187 / John Boyega is officially jumping into another sci-fi franchise – he’ll be starring in Steven S. DeKnight‘s ‘Pacific Rim: Maelstrom’.
And surprise surprise – he’ll be playing the son of Idris Elba‘s character from the first film, Stacker Pentecost.
The sequel of the 2013 film ‘Pacific Rim‘, both of which are based on the universe created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham, will be hitting cinemas in 2017.
de Toro said this about Boyega joining the franchise:
“I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The ‘Pacific Rim’ universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world.‘The World saving the world’ was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job.”
Legendary‘s vice chairman of worldwide production Mary Parent said this of Boyega:
“It is undeniable that with all his talent and natural charm, John stands out amongst today’s generation of young leading men.”
While the rest of the cast list for ‘Pacific Rim: Maelstrom’ has been rumoured (Charlie Hunnam is allegedly on board, as is Ron Perlman), Boyega is the only castmember currently confirmed.
