Ex-‘Bachelor’ Producer Says Hookups Going “Too Far” Is Standard Practice

A former producer from the American Bachelor franchise has had their say on the allegations of sexual misconduct on the set of Bachelor In Paradise, and their comments don’t exactly defend the show’s take on intoxicated contestants.

Production on Bachelor In Paradise was halted after a crew member raised the alarm over an alleged incident between contestant DeMario Jackson and a drunk female cast member, in which it appeared the woman was unable to give consent.

Another crew member later claimed that, at one point, the woman appeared unconscious. However, the former producer tells People that it’s actually “par for the course that there is a drunken hookup that went too far,” and that it “certainly goes on all the time.”
They also said that contestants “allow themselves to forget there are cameras – and just get caught up in the moment,”
From those comments, it’s possible to question the willingness and ability of production staff to halt potential misconduct on set. Despite that, the former producer says staff can and do step in, “especially if someone has gotten too drunk and can’t handle themselves.

“If someone’s had a few drinks, but seem to know what they’re doing, you’re probably going to let that go. If someone is passing out or slurring, you’re going to take care of them.”
Earlier, a contestant on the show told People that production staff “could have stopped this before it got this far. But they decided to let it go, and let it happen”. The former producer provides a different viewpoint, saying staff are “all over the place and monitoring absolutely everything.

“The majority of producers are women and there’s a real sensitivity to this sort of stuff about being taken advantage of.”
Production company Warner Bros. is conducting an investigation into the alleged incident. No charges have been laid against Jackson, nor against the show’s producers.
