Dude Sells 20 Y.O. Maccas Szechuan Sauce He Found In A Used Car For $19K

The absolute fever pitch obsession with the McDonald’s limited edition Szechuan sauce – released as a promo product for Mulan back in the heady days of 1998 – has kinda subsided a little now that the Rick & Morty ep it featured in is receding into memory.

But that didn’t stop some absolute maniac from lodging a winning bid of US$14,700 ($AUD19540) on a nearly 20-year-old packet of unopened sauce which the seller allegedly found in the back of their car.
“I just bought a really old car, while cleaning it I found a packet of this sauce,” the listing states. “After watching the recent episode of Rick and Morty I went online to see if it was worth anything. Turns out it was. Also this comes with a packet of wasabi as well.”
And a packet of wasabi? For the low, low cost of $14,700? That, my friends, is a steal.
They added in the listing a grave warning: “I hope somebody who wants to eat some 20 year old gnarly sauce gets this. I would prefer not to sell it to a collector.” Based on the fact that this person is paying literally nearly fifteen large for this sauce, I find it highly unlikely they are going to eat it.
Sorry to the folks who wanted to taste that sweet, sweet sauce without paying an insane amount of money for it. There are plenty of listings on eBay from people who have made their own (possibly toxic) approximations of the sauce, or you can pay a significantly lower price for a picture or drawing of the sauce.
Or you could just bug McDonald’s on social media until they bring it back. Or – and this is a big, big ask – you could do literally anything else with your money and time.
