In no surprise whatsoever, Riverdale has been renewed for a fourth season by CW.
The news comes on the heels of last week’s fab announcement of a spin-off series.
Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa celebrated the renewal news on Twitter with a picture of the characters.
“Three years ago, this show only existed as a script and this image,” he wrote. “Now, there’s a superstar group of actors playing these iconic roles. And a spectacular crew that brings our small, murderous town to life. Thrilled to be able to continue telling stories for Season 4 (!of #Riverdale) “

Meanwhile, Netflix – who stream the series – also celebrated the news with some delightful season four predictions.
Riverdale got renewed. Here's my S4 predictions:
— Netflix ANZ (@NetflixANZ) January 31, 2019
– Archie will FINALLY be able to play football AND sing music.
– Jughead removes his beanie, revealing a smaller beanie
– Lots of characters will die with no consequence to the core cast.
– Turns out Barb was Ethyl this whole time.
More predictions from your pals at Netflix?
- Veronica will continue to have daddy issues
- Episode 13 is a Marie Kondo crossover. Ethyl does not spark joy
- Archie and Hiram bury the hatchet… IN EACH OTHER’S BACKS
- The entire season will be a musical
Big yes to a Marie Kondo crossover.
As for that Riverdale spin-off series, Deadline reports Katy Keene will take place years after Riverdale High School.
“There are no plans to do anything [regarding a crossover],” CW head Mark Pedowitz said. “Any of the Riverdale characters who come to Katy Keene will be older. Rober [Aguirre-Sacasa] is getting the pilot right.”
Katy Keene, based on the comics, will be a musical dramedy focusing on the titular character. In the comics, Katy is a model, singer, and actor but in the series, she’ll be an aspiring New York City fashion designer.
