Facebook Apparently Wants To Give Cristiano Ronaldo A Reality Show

Facebook is reportedly keen on a making an original reality series about the one and only Cristiano Ronaldo for their platform, Facebook Watch.

If you’re unfamiliar with the service, it’s pretty much your standard video-on-demand gig. It launched back in August, 2017.

Variety’s industry sources say Facebook is currently in talks to bring the massive football superstar to the ‘lil screen. There are very little details about the show at the moment but according to Variety there’ll be 13 episodes and Ronaldo will cop an easy $10 million pay cheque.

Sounds about right.

Ronaldo is easily one, if not the most popular athlete on the planet. The dude currently has 122,675,713 likes on his Facebook page… not to mention his 133 million followers on Instagram. In comparison, fellow football stars Neymar and Lionel Messi have 98.6 million and 96.4 million followers on their respective Instagram accounts. That’s quite the large gap.

Back in May of this year, Deadline reported the incredible athlete was working on a scripted and still untitled drama for Facebook Watch.  The series is written by Liz Garcia and Josh Harto and follows a high-school girl’s football team over in upstate New York. Apart from including the rocky hurdles teenagers face during their young adult lives, the show also explores racial and class divide – subjects overcome by the team’s love of the sport.

Garcia, Josh, and Ronaldo will be executive producers of the show.

Ronaldo told Deadline:

“To be the executive producer of this series is going to be an amazing experience, especially given the talent of the people who are working very hard to bring it to life.

“The story of my life has many similarities with the highs and lows the girls varsity soccer team will face in the series.

“While the series is set against the background of soccer, it goes much deeper than just the beautiful game. It’s about values, challenges, friendship, difficult times, hard work, solidarity, tensions, and harmony. In a word – it’s about life.”

Ronaldo plays for both Real Madrid C.F and Portugal’s national team.

Portugal were eliminated from the 2018 Russia World Cup after losing to Uruguay in the round of 16.
