Every year the Sundance Film Festival produces a handful of films that attract a whirlwind of attention, but very few get the kind of buzz that The Overnight has.
Following a notably spirited bidding war for distribution rights, we’ve now got our first look at what a lot of critics are labelling potentially the funniest comedy of the year, and the best sex comedy in recent memory.
The Overnight stars Adam Scott and Taylor Schilling as a married couple just moved to Los Angeles who reluctantly attend dinner at their insistent new neighbours’ house – Jason Schwartzman and Judith Godrèche. But as the night wears on, things wind up getting more and more adventurous, as the new-in-towners are slowly drawn into their neighbours’ unusually sexy proclivities.
Written and directed by Patrick Brice and executive produced by Scott, along with Mark and Jay Duplass, The Overnight is due for release on the 19th of June, and features one of the most hilariously minimal posters you’re ever likely to see.
