Channel Ten Announce ‘Bikie Wars’

Channel 10 have announced a mini-series dealing with the most brutal bikie war Sydney has ever seen.

Bikie Wars: Brothers In Arms will detail the events leading up to the Milperra Massacre of 1984, which saw six bikies and an innocent bystander lose their lives. Bikie Wars will be created by the team behind Underbelly and will delve into the psychology behind gang warfare between the Comancheros and Bandidos. The drama is based on the best-selling book written by former Sydney Morning Herald crime journalists, the late Sandra Harvey and Lindsay Simpson. For a quick history refresher, check out the interactive module over at the Herald’s website.

No cast have been announced yet, but with this crew in charge, it’s likely that a whole new breed of up-and-coming actors will get their moment to shine behind the handlebars of a wild hog. Also, there will almost definitely be the gratuitous baring of breasts. That’s kind of the calling card of Underbelly‘s longtime executive producer Greg Haddrick. Hopefully they’re not man-boobs.

Channel 10 actually need this drama; having moved Neighbours to new sister station Eleven, they’re below the regulator requirements for first release local drama (and no, new seasons of NCIS don’t count.) Which kind of means Bikie Wars, which has no actors, has to get onto screens before the end of this year or Ten is in trouble.

Onya bike, then,
