Bryan Cranston Reported To Play Lex Luthor In Man Of Steel Sequel

Last week the internet melted down like it had been been hit with Superman’s laser beam eyes at the announcement from Warner Brothers that Ben Affleck would be donning the batcape for Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel sequel, Batman Vs Superman. This week another big casting decision has been reportedly been made, with Cosmic Book News reporting that Bryan Cranston, the man who brought Breaking Bad‘s anti-hero Walter White to life, is set to play the (also bald) supervillain Lex Luthor.

According to CBM, “Bryan Cranston has been cast as Lex Luthor in what is said to be at least a six “appearance” deal (think of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury popping up in every Marvel movie in the run-up to Avengers) and may be as high as ten.”

The same article suggests Affleck’s appearance count as Batman could run as high as 13, no doubt further enraging the 50,000 or so people who have signed an anti-Ben Affleck For Batman petition on change.org (rather than, you know, just not seeing the movie).

Cranston has proved his villainous acting chops in his transformation from gentle family man to murderous drug kingpin in Breaking Bad, and an official announcement will likely be made by Warner Brothers sometime after the rapidly approaching series finale, as they are likely to want to capitalise on the series’ huge success. It wouldn’t be Cranston’s first involvement with the world of DC Superheroes, having voiced Commissioner Jim Gordon in the 2011 animated feature Batman: Year One.

We’ll have to wait until the film is released in 2015 to see if Lex Luthor enlists a sidekick called PinkMan and starts manufacturing his own Kryptal Meth.
