The actor has since broken his silence on the snub, saying that he was “embarrassed” and felt like he “hadn’t done” his job.

“I was embarrassed. I was at a coffee shop in New York City and looked down at my phone and Nicole [Caruso, his publicist] has told me congratulations and said what we had been nominated for,” Cooper recalled during his appearance on Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations from Times Square. “They didn’t even give me the bad news.”

He added, “I was embarrassed because I felt I hadn’t done my job.”

His co-star Lady Gaga reacted to the news shortly after it was announced, saying that “the best director in my eyes, and in all of our eyes as his cast.”

“I know that he’s so happy that we’ve all been nominated and that the film was recognised and we all feel really, really beyond elated for the recognition,” the singer said during an interview with the Los Angeles Times after the nominees for the 2019 Academy Awards were revealed.

Despite the snub, he and Gaga are reportedly set to perform the Oscar-nominated bop ‘Shallow’ at the award ceremony.

Sure, Brad wasn’t recognised in the director category but the film was far from a failure, having scored an amazing eight nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor In A Leading Role, Best Actress In A Leading Role, Best Actor In A Supporting Role, Best Original Song, Best Sound Mixing, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Cinematography.

Not a shallow result at all, I reckon (geddit?).
