‘Black Mirror’ S4’s Newest Trailer Takes The Tech Dystopia Vibes To Iceland

Netflix knows we’re thirsty: just two days after dropping the first trailer for Black Mirror’s fourth season, they’ve hit us with another short-but-eerie sneak peek.

Where the previous trailer showed us the Jodie Foster-directed ‘AkrAngel‘, this one looks at ‘Crocodile‘, the first episode of the season. We’re very tentatively going to call it ‘Eternal Sunshine meets Inception in Iceland‘.

In the below trailer, we see Andrea – played by British actress Kiran Sonia Sawar – piece together a vehicle accident. With a witness who can’t remember what happened, she uses a glowing-cube device to examine his memories.

No doubt there’s a dubious quality to the tech, teasingly hinted at in the trailer’s end lines, where Andrea says, “I don’t care what you do in your own time. Private stuff is private stuff.”

What could it mean?

We don’t know much right now, other than a few basic facts. The episode is directed by Aussie John Hillcoat of The Road, and was written by Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker. Show producer Annabel Jones let a little slip, including the Icelandic setting, in an interview with The Independent:

Crocodile’ is a beautiful, more personal study. It’s set in Iceland which introduced a totally new palette – one of the privileges of doing Black Mirror is the opportunity to create different worlds and moods and tones. It’s a film set in the near future where your memories are no longer private so they can be dredged – sometimes in helpful ways. It’s very different to [season one episode] ‘The Entire History of You’ in that they’re not accurate – they’re memories rather than recordings. We follow Andrea Riseborough, a woman trying to solve a dilemma…

There’s no release date for Season 4 yet, but we’re going to stick to our guns and say it must be dropping super soon. Watch the trailer and spy off a teaser poster below.
