The ‘Between Two Ferns’ Netflix Movie Has A Release Date & Here We Fkn Go

In what’s easily going to be the awkward movie experience of the year, Netflix and Funny or Die have finally put a release date on the long-awaited and suddenly very imminent Between Two Ferns movie, bringing Zach Galifianakis‘ long-running and gloriously cringey web series to larger streaming screens in September.

Funny or Die announced this afternoon that the officially titled Between Two Ferns: The Movie will arrive on Netflix come September 20th, and will feature both Galifianakis and “celebrities you’ve heard of.”

With veteran comic and Comedy Bang! Bang! legend Scott Aukerman taking the directorial reigns, the movie will serve as the first proper instalment in well over a year; the last episode was released in June of 2018 and featured Jerry Seinfeld and Cardi B. Prior to that, the show released one special episode in 2016 with guest Hillary Clinton. Those two episodes represent the only instalments in the series since October 2014.

According to Funny or Die’s announcement, the feature version of the “chat” show is going to be something of a road movie, with Galifianakis hitting the road to “restore his reputation.” Cop the full synopsis thusly:

Zach Galifianakis dreamed of becoming a star. But when Will Ferrell discovered his public access TV show Between Two Ferns and uploaded it to Funny Or Die, Zach became a viral laughing stock. Now Zach and his crew are taking a road trip to complete a series of high-profile celebrity interviews and restore his reputation. Directed by Scott Aukerman, BETWEEN TWO FERNS: THE MOVIE is a laugh-out-loud comedy that gives new insight into the curmudgeonly, beloved outsider Zach Galifianakis has created over the years.

Just to reiterate: Beloved long-running web series Between Two Ferns is no shit being adapted into a full feature-length movie called Between Two Ferns: The Movie, and it will premiere on Netflix, in your house, on September 20th.

You. Bloody. Beauty.
