The Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 31-25 victory at the 2011 Super Bowl yesterday – the biggest sporting event on the NFL calendar in the United States. But let’s take a look at the entertaining section of the telecast: the commercials. Last year the majority of the adverts were skewed towards a male audience with the majority of themes being Megan Fox’s bare thighs, broing down, manning up and drinking games. This year the spread was a lot broader with a few standouts. Our favourite? It’s hard to beat Volkswagen’s clever use of iconic Star Wars references coupled with a high score of cute points as the ad to beat. From Kim Kardashion to charging pugs and McDonald’s eating beers, here’s a look at some of the best TVC’s from the telecast.
Volkswagen Black Beetle Ad
Herbie The Love Bug goes to the future with CGI and cool white racing stripes.
Coca Cola Seige animation ad
Another animation, this one appears to be a joint project made by the creators of the Matthew McConaughey vehicle “Reign Of Fire” and “The Lord Of The Rings” in which a dragon vomits glittery confetti onto orcs to save some ewoks from certain disaster. This almost certainly infringes on intellectual property theft.
Morotola – Empower the people (Google/Android’s tablet – version of iphone)
The tagline is “The Tablet For All Of Us” and, judging by the Orwellian jumpsuit-wearing lemmings with their unmistakable white headphones, elitist jerk iPod users are the target here.
Status ‘ Chevy Cruze
This isn’t even a great ad but you have to see what this car can do via voice-activation. It’s the perfect function for creeps and losers.
The new Sony Ericsson Xperia™ PLAY
Sony’s new hand held game console is like R2D2 with opposable thumbs. Creepy / awesome.
