Embittered DC fans seeking justice for Justice League may have secured their biggest victory yet, after recruiting stars Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck in their quest to see a version of the film which, uh, may or may not exist in the way they think it does.

Gadot, who plays Wonder Woman in the superhero film franchise, and Affleck, who was recently replaced by Robert Pattinson as Batman, today tweeted #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, a reference to director Zack Snyder‘s vision for the maligned film.

Snyder stepped away from the production in 2017 after the tragic death of his daughter, Autumn. Snyder had overseen the bulk of the filming and production at the time, but the remainder of those duties were handed to Avengers director, Joss Whedon.
The film opened to broadly negative reviews and settled on a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics claiming it was clumsy, awkward, and projected an uneven tone to cinema audiences.
But some fans of the franchise claimed that was largely due to Whedon’s takeover and the way his vision differed from Snyder’s. Speculation grew regarding how much of Snyder’s input was shelved for the final product, leading some to believe Warner Bros. Pictures was sitting on a nearly-complete picture of higher quality than the one foisted on fans.
Then Snyder said not one, but a “bunch” of his cuts are “done” at a fan event.
Billboards demanding DC and Warner Bros. release the ‘Snyder Cut’ popped up in New York City last month, and a “speechless and humbled” Snyder even gave fans a shout-out on social media platform Vero (remember that one?).
Cut to today, the two-year anniversary of the film’s cinematic release, and two stars have joined in. Whether Warner Bros. expend the energy and funds to polish and release Justice League version 2.0 is yet to be seen, but judging by its next-gen focus, it seems unlikely. Soz.
