What we have here is your classic good news / bad news situation.
The bad news is that Will Smith is not returning to kick any more alien butt in Independence Day: Resurgence. The good news is that we get Liam Hemsworth, one half of our nation’s most adorable bromance, to do so instead.
The trailer for the new film, which will come out 20 years after the original, arrived overnight, and features pretty much everything you could want from an Independence Day sequel. Per the plot description:
Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
