When the first trailer for the long-awaited Independence Day follow-up rolled around, we were overawed by the fact Jeff Goldblum is something we’re still blessed with. We were also kinda stoked Australian Liam Hemsworth had been tasked with saving America / the planet from intergalactic douchebags.
That being said, that first look was a bit of a slow burn. Sure, it set the scene and the vibe of the Will Smith-less sequel, but when we’re talking about a movie franchise that’s built on a legacy of wanton destruction, that namby-pamby world-building falls behind world-destroying.
