5 Seconds Of Summer guitarist Michael Clifford may be used to his fans calling him “daddy” but now he’s about to be a genuine, legitimate father.
On Monday, Michael and his wife Crystal Leigh announced that they are expecting their first baby together. Congratulations to the adorable couple!
“I’m filled with excitement and also with nerves,” Michael revealed to PEOPLE.
“I’ve been a dog dad for a long time, so I think I’m ready for a small human to take care of and communicate with conversationally after eight years of one-sided dog convos!”
While the young couple are over the moon, they revealed that the pregnancy hasn’t been without its setbacks. At the beginning of the pregnancy, Crystal experienced a subchronic hematoma which meant there was bleeding surrounding the embryo.
“It caused a lot of bleeding, which was absolutely terrifying. We raced to the doctor on Easter when it happened, but thankfully our baby was OK,” she said.
Thankfully, after being prescribed bed rest and no stress, Crystal and the baby are thriving.
Now the pair are working on making their home into a serene sanctuary for their little one.
“With how much Michael tours, I think the at-home environment being a complete oasis is so important. I’m hoping that when our perfect little screaming-crying-pooping-bundle-of-joy comes speeding full force into our lives, the calm and peaceful home we’ve created will help provide some balance,” Crystal said.
I appreciate the candor. It’s pretty rare that someone references their baby’s inevitable shitting habits when talking to a magazine that gets international traction. I love it.
For Michael, the experience has opened his eyes to how incredible women are.
“The fact that for every single human on the planet – including everyone reading this – a strong woman had to go through carrying a baby, going through all of the emotions that come with being pregnant, and then deliver the baby is just astounding,” he told the mag sincerely.
Really glad things are clicking into place for him.
Michael and Crystal have been together since 2016 but officially tied the knot in a secret ceremony in 2021.
