2012 Gold Logie Contenders: Who Will Win?

It’s Australia’s answer to the Emmys; it’s the night all the cast members from Home And Away most important people in the country’s entertainment industry congregate in Melbourne to recognise the creme de la creme of Australian television. It’s the TV Week Logie Awards!

The 2012 Nominations are in and, based on a quick analysis (i.e. none at all), we have deduced which of the six Gold Logie contenders is most likely to take out the evening’s top prize.

We’ve had a pretty good run speculating on who is most likely to be voted (by the public) for the top gong. The sometimes-drunk-on-air Today Show host Karl Stefanovic won the 2011 Gold Logie, following our half-hearted campaign to get him votes. Similarly, in 2010 we correctly picked Alf Stewart from Home And Away as the winner.

And so to the nominees!

GOLD LOGIE – Most Popular Personality on TV
Adam Hills (Spicks And Specks, ABC1/Adam Hills In Gordon St Tonight, ABC1)
Asher Keddie (Nina Proudman, Offspring, Network Ten /Ita Buttrose, Paper Giants: The Birth Of Cleo, ABC1)
Carrie Bickmore (The Project, Network Ten)
Esther Anderson (Charlie Buckton, Home And Away, Channel Seven)
Hamish Blake (Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year, Nine Network)
Karl Stefanovic (Today, Nine Network)

Our pick? Hamish Blake.

One half of beloved radio-television comedy duo, ‘Hamish And Andy’, Hamish AKA “the funnier one” is our pick to take out the Gold this year. Why? In terms of pure ubiquity he rates highly among the nominees. In addition to Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year, Hamish was a regular guest on Rove Live, and made multiple appearances on Spicks and Specks and Thank God You’re Here.

Hamish also has the advantage of having hosted an extremely popular drive-time radio program, and he will undoubtedly get some crossover votes from listeners of the show. And don’t forget that the majority of voters are people who read TV Week. Think of the demographic of people who might read that kind of magazine?… Or why don’t I just tell you. TV Week’s recorded demographics show the majority of the readership are women over 50 years of age, also known as people who think Hamish Blake is adorable.

And, well, he does manage to turn ridiculousness into something inexplicably endearing…
