2011 Logie Nominations Are In

It’s Australia’s answer to the Emmys; it’s the night the most powerful people in the country congregate at the Palladium Ball Room in Melbourne to recognise the creme de la creme of scripted, and sometimes unscripted, television. It’s the TV Week Logie Awards.

Past Emmy hosts include Ed Sullivan, Frank Sinatra, Conan O’Brien and Ricky Gervais. Past winners include the Dick Van Dyk Show, Seinfeld, Cheers, Mad Men and the David Letterman Show, to name but a few. The Logies have enjoyed a similar plethora of brilliance from the likes Gretel Killeen, Fifi Box and Eddie McGuire. Tinsel town.

Our attention is innately drawn to the Nobel Peace Prize of the evening – the coveted Gold Logie Award For Most Popular Personality on Australian Television. Past victors include Ray Martin and Rove McManus. This year’s nominees include Adam Hills for Spicks and Specks, Asher Keddie for Offspring and Hawke, Chris Swan for the Circle, Jessica Marais and Rebecca Gibney for Packed to the Rafters, and of course Karl Stefanovic for interviewing that kid who thombstoned a bully.

Packed to the Rafters is in prime position with a further 13 nominations while the ABC could win for their harrowing coverage of the Pakistan floods.

Reality TV heavy-weights Master Chef are hungry for back-to-back wins, however the culinary champs will face some heavy competition from The Biggest Loser, while Farmer Wants a Wife will hope to plow its way across the finish line for a debut Logie.

A full list of nominees can be seen here.

The Logies will take place on May 1 and will be televised on the Nine Network.
