Hamish Blake Takes The 2012 Gold Logie

As far as Australian awards ceremonies go, the Logies is up there with the ARIA awards, but last night’s 2012 event was surprisingly bearable if not, occasionally, kind of entertaining.

We saw One Direction enchant the upper echelons of the Australian television industry with their choreographed dance moves and fun hairstyles, turning Melbourne’s Crown Casino into a c- and d-grade scream-fest. Living legend of croon, Tony Bennett, brought the only game he has – A. And there was a genuinely moving homage to the late Molly Meldrum. Wait, Molly is still alive. But it was a top notch eulogy nonetheless. Get well soon big guy. Highlights also included a ridiculous appearance by Flo Rida’s chest and plenty of cutaways to Irene from Home And Away.

Just as we predicted Hamish Blake took out the Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality on TV, the news of which had been leaked an hour prior to the telecast presentation.

Organisers of the show attempted to ban attendees from Twitter again, but no one tells Larry Emdur what to do.

The other major prize of the night, the Silver Logie, went to Hugh Sheridan for Most Popular Actor and Asher Keddie for Most Popular Actress; but of course, as always, the highlight was last year’s Gold Logie winner Karl Stefanovic visibly still drunk on The Today Show this morning.

Again.
