US Baseball Pitcher To Retire On 69 Wins & A 4.20 Average Which Is… Nice

Fitting that one of Major League Baseball‘s most online personalities is set to retire with the most online set of playing stats of them all.

Brandon McCarthy, a 35-year-old journeyman pitcher who is currently signed to the Atlanta Braves, made the decision back in August to retire at the end of the current MLB season. Persistent knee tendonitis has hampered his ability to get out onto the park, and today Braves manager Brian Snitker confirmed there was not enough time remaining in the season to get McCarthy’s injury healed to a point where he’d be able to play again.

In effect, McCarthy’s career is now over, meaning his stat sheet that was current at the time of his injury in June is now his final career tally.

Which means he gets to finish his career on 69 total wins with an Earned Run Average of exactly 4.20.

NICe.

NICE.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

As a fun addendum, McCarthy routinely winds up on those “athletes you should be following on social media” lists for a good reason. We could spend a hell of a lot of time here dumping in a greatest hits of his insanely good Twitter feed, but the one he chooses to pin to the top of his profile says it all really.

Atta boy Brandon. Officially the nicest baseball player of all time.
