It’s a sad day for scene kids. Melbourne’s alternative nightclub institution Bang! has announced it’ll be shutting up shop for good soon, after 12 years of saying Tom’s List for $5 off entry.
Promoting company Destroy All Lines confirmed the weekly punk/emo/metal institution will be done for good after a final run of 10 weeks, with the last-ever Bang! night set to be held on Saturday, August 18th.
The weekly party night – which has hosted a swathe of live shows and appearances from the likes of Fred Durst, Oli Sykes of Bring Me The Horizon, the almighty Andrew WK and others – has carved a niche in the Spencer St corner of Melbourne at the Royal Melbourne Hotel for well over a decade, covering Australia’s mid-2000s emo and hardcore waves at their absolute peaks.
In a statement to media, organisers thanked fans for their support of the events over the years, stating “You’ve been our friends and our family for over a decade. This place was for the misfits, for those who didn’t fit in, it gave us all a home and a place to belong.”
The final run of 10 weeks at the venue is being touted as a high-powered send-off for Bang!, with “huge surprise bands, DJs, guests and reunions” reportedly planned for the string of events.
Organisers are also promising that they have “some super special and amazing things in the works,” hinting at a future beyond the demise of Bang!.
