The old Taylor Swift can come to the phone now ‘cos she’s back with a new music video and to be completely honest, it’s actually pretty good. Delicate is said to be inspired by boyfriend Joe Alwyn and gives off a torrent of 1989 feels. There aren’t any slithering snakes and Taylor doesn’t channel her inner Ghost in the Shell either. Instead, the fringe, pony tail and another blue dress is back.
Although Taylor does mention ‘reputation’ here and there in case we forgot the hot mess that brought about this album. And Taylor’s got a coupla snake rings on too…
Tay Tay premiered the video on Sunday at the iHeartRadio Music Awards and naturally all the Swifties lost their shit and immediately started analysing the video frame by frame.
Although, if I had to pick, the picture below would be the highlight of the entire video.
The video begins with a pretty sad Taylor doing an interview in front of a bunch of paps, taking selfies and being surrounded by her security team. But then she gets slipped a magical card which turns her invisible and that’s when Taylor suddenly becomes free to do whatever she wants. And what does she do? Dance like nobody’s watching. This is the crutch of the vid and it’s sweet in its own strange way. There are obvs some Easter eggs in the film clip which fans have already picked up on including a store Taylor dances by, Joe’s Deli, which is probably a reference to bae.
At the end of the video, Taylor enters a diner carrying the fading magical card and us mere mortals can suddenly see her again. But unlike the sad Taylor at the start of the video, she’s hopeful and looking around for someone who she quickly finds. I wonder who that could be? (Defs Joe). Anyway, she smiles a big ol’ smile flaunting her love and happiness in all our faces.
