Now Jacqui Lambie Might Have Citizenship Issues & Can We Just Start Again?

In case you were labouring under the misapprehension that we were through the woods when it comes to citizenship dramas… well, perhaps not. The latest pollie to face possible questions over their citizenship is none other than Jacqui Lambie, who may or may not have Scottish citizenship through her father.

According to the ABC, Lambie admits that her father was born in Scotland, but she’s confident that she has not inherited Scottish citizenship.

“His father, my grandfather, came to Australia to enlist in the Army in fact,” she said. “As far as I’m concerned, all their affairs are in order.”

“A citizenship audit of all parliamentarians will clear the air once and for all, which is why I am supporting such a move 100 per cent.”

She’s quite confident, based on her tweets.

Despite the confidence, she says she won’t present citizenship papers until Parliament asks her to. They’re pretty key – she’ll need to prove that her dad renounced his British citizenship, as it would have passed down automatically if he didn’t.

Malcolm Turnbull wants to force all parliamentarians to put this issue to bed and declare their citizenship status by December 18. Documents need to produced no later than December 1.

Look, can we just start again. People are clearly a bit confused about this whole Constitution thing.
