Jacqui Lambie Could Resign Within 24 Hours Over Possible Dual Citizenship

The unspeakable bloodshed from section 44 of the constitution continues unabated. After denying that she held British citizenship despite the fact her father was born in Scotland, Tasmanian senator Jacqui Lambie looks set to join the ranks of the fallen. According to multiple reports, she could quit Parliament within 24 hours over her own citizenship snafu.

She herself denies reports, which come via several senators including Cory Bernardi. But it is true that she is currently awaiting “urgent” advice from British authorities as to whether she holds dual citizenship.

“Tasmanians will be the first to know,” she said today, while denying that she had received any specific advice at this point. “I’m not resigning.”

Let us cast our gaze back to her statement when she spoke to the ABC just last week:

His father, my grandfather, came to Australia to enlist in the Army in fact. As far as I’m concerned, all their affairs are in order. A citizenship audit of all parliamentarians will clear the air once and for all, which is why I am supporting such a move 100 per cent.

Doesn’t seem like it’s that clear cut! We’ll keep you posted on Jacqui’s plight.
