After entering a Melbourne swingers party where it was feared a man was brandishing a real gun, Victoria Police’s Critical Incident Response Team took just 32 seconds to open fire on the 35-year-old attendee.
The Age reports that CCTV footage of the Saturday morning incident shows armed police storming into the costumed event on the first floor of Inflation nightclub, shining a flashlight on a couple engaged in a sexual act, and then shooting at the man.
The Age states CCTV footage of the room was too dim to determine if the man had actually pointed the replica weapon at officers – or, if he was trying to pull up his pants, as per claims by Inflation’s management.
The man was shot in the lower back, and is recovering from his injury. His 37-year-old female companion sustained a leg injury, and is also recovering.
Authorities are conducting a full investigation of the incident.
