The P.TV will be reporting from Splendour allllll weekend long. Follow us on Instagram [@pedestriantv] for all that sweet BTS content.
It’s the coldest Splendour in the Grass has been in YEARS, and the punters are not okay.
Friday night kicked things off with a bang. Peking Duk did a closer of a show at 6pm in the Amphitheatre, tapping Dale Kerrigan from ‘The Castle‘ to intro them. HAIM were their perfect and adorable selves. Lil Yachty carried a giant Kermit the frog like some kind of…. security blanket? Mascot?…. and we have absolutely no idea why.
But holymotherofgod it was cold and tbh, no one was prepared to deal.
Temps reached as low as 10.2 degrees on the first Friday, making it the coldest first day of Splendour since the festival returned to its homeland at the Byron Bay Parklands.
Punters who were camping told PEDESTRIAN.TV that after the bitter colds of Thursday night, they were forced to head into town and make a K-Mart trip for extra doonas and jumpers.
Another punter, who wasn’t staying on site, told P.TV on Friday that she was leaving early and missing HAIM, Father John Misty, and The xx, purely because she was too cold in shorts to last the night.
And security guards patrolling the bonfires on site were forced to continually tells punters to “step back” ’cause they were getting a liiiiiittle too close to the flames, but in this writer’s opinion, last night you could’ve jumped into the fire pit itself and still not been warm enough. (This writer wore shorts, is a huge ginormous idiot.)

Honestly there is only one way to deal with this cold, and that is extreme layering.
Sunday is looking marginally more pleasant, temperature-wise, but Saturday isn’t going to be much warmer than Friday. Rug the hell up.
