Richard Ashcroft Throws Splendour Hissy Fit

Save a malnourished hippie who lost consciousness at the Chai Tent, former Verve custodian Richard Ashcroft was the gauntest person I saw at last weekend’s Splendour In The Grass. He was also the festival’s angriest attendee after storming off mid-set on the festival’s fourth and final day of revelry.

Ashcroft, who was visibly annoyed by the modest gathering at his 10pm set, cut his performance short, threw his tambourine to the ground, urged punters to watch Pixies instead and stormed off in a waiting car. Ashcroft was playing at the smallest of Splendour’s three main stages, the GW McLennan tent, while festival heavyweights Empire Of The Sun and Pixies absorbed most of Splendour’s human traffic at the Mix Up Tent and Amphitheater respectively.

Though his Splendour may have been bittersweet we’d like to remind Mr. Ashcroft that in some cases, the less punters at your set the better.
