The public pool is certainly a huge part of the Australian way of life. A big part of the school curriculum, Tuesday afternoons the country over were spent in our togs.
No doubt you already know
how good swimming is for your rig. A solid breaststroke session is one of the best ways to build endurance and work in cardio without putting a ton of impact on your body. It can improve flexibility too, as well as coordination and balance.
You wanna pick which pool you dip in wisely, though. Copping a soggy bandaid on the face is not fun. Neither is contracting tinea from the floor from going barefoot. The following list of our fave Eastern seaboard pewls aren’t as impressive as the Champagne Papi‘s digs, but they go alright.
SYDNEY
Prince Alfred Park Pool, Surry Hills.
This one’s got a 50m lap pool, as well as a toddler splash pool, though I’m not sure why I’m mentioning that because you probably don’t have kids.
COST: $6.20 for adults, $4.70 for concession card holders.
OPENING HOURS: 6am – 7pm erryday.
North Sydney Olympic Pool, Milsons Point.
Location = specfuckintacular.
COST: $7.20 for adults and $6.20 for students with concession cards.
OPENING HOURS: 5:30am – 9pm on weekdays, 7am – 7pm weekends and pub holidays.
Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre, Ultimo.
COST: $7.20 for adults, $5.40 for concession.
OPENING HOURS: 6am – 10pm weekdays, 6am – 8pm weekends.
MELBOURNE
St Kilda Sea Baths, St Kilda.
There’s a heated 25m seawater pool, a hydrotherapy spa pool to relieve your sore muscles and a unisex aromatherapy steam room. It’s all on the St Kilda foreshore, so you can enjoy the view of the ocean and interesting passers-by.
COST: $13 for adults, $9 for concession.
OPENING HOURS: 5am – 11pm Monday to Thursday, 5am – 10pm on Friday and 7am – 8pm on weekends.
Prahran Aquatic Centre, Prahran.
COST: $6.20 for adults, $3.90 concession.
OPENING HOURS: 5:45am – 7:45pm Monday to Friday, 6am – 6:15pm Saturday and 7am – 6:15pm Sunday.
Fitzroy Swimming Pool, Fitzroy.
COST: $6 for an adult swim, $2.80 for concession.
OPENING HOURS: 6am – 8pm Monday to Friday, 8am – 6pm on weekends.
