If you’re one of the fortunate ones who happen to be a card-carrying employee of Sony Pictures, you would’ve rocked up to work today to find your workload for the next two years or so neatly laid out in front of you.
The Hollywood film giant has released its slate of films for 2016 and 2017 (and beyond), pinning release dates onto some already publicly known properties, as well as some that might come as a bit of a surprise.
The big take away from the release schedule is that there are a pair of new Bad Boys films in the works. Though there is no word just yet on whether Will Smith and Martin Lawrence will return to the buddy cop franchise that arguably put them on the Hollywood map – honestly, how on EARTH could you do it without them, though? – what is known is that the dramatic standing panning shots will return for Bad Boys 3 on February 17th, 2017, which will be followed by Bad Boys 4 on July 3rd, 2019.
In addition, the “it’s actually happening and there’s nothing you can do to stop it” remake of Jumanji makes an appearance on the release schedule. Again, very little information about the film is known beyond the fact that it’s actually happening. It won’t hit cinemas for a while yet though, so in the jungle you must wait until the dice read 5 or 8 (or Christmas Day 2016).
Other notable titles in the slate of films includes the first instalment in Stephen King‘s The Dark Tower franchise (which will hit screens in 2017), the Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence sci-fi romance Passengers (scheduled for an awards-season push next year), Resident Evil 6, and the next film for Edgar Wright, Baby Driver.
