Los Angeles sisters Danielle, Alana, and Este Haim form three quarters of Splendour In The Grass-bound indie-pop outfit HAIM (all-caps; rhymes with time), along with their drummer Dash Hutton. Like Hanson, the band name is lifted straight off the family tree and not, as I had mistakenly assumed, after 1980s child star and one time indie band reference, Corey Haim.
With their infectious single “Don’t Save Me” the group topped triple j’s Second Hottest 100, an appropriately precipitous position for a band on the verge of breaking through big time. Sure enough, HAIM signed to Polydor Records and will be hitting Australian shores for the first time this July to play Splendour In The Grass. ASOS photographer Michael Hauptman shot the girls in their natural habitat down by LA’s Santa Monica Pier, and we have a feeling they’re going to get along just fine in Splendour’s beach-side home town of Byron Bay…
