“Seriously, I really love reading them,” he said to a crowd of esteemed guests, map geeks and press. “I love planning adventures whether they be a car journey or a bike ride or even in some circumstances guiding a boat on the sea.” We’re not sure if the “guiding a boat on the sea” line is a reference to his role as naval captain Jack Aubrey in Peter Weir’s Master And Commander or that time he actually got lost at sea on a recreational kayaking journey. Could have used a map that day, hey Russell.
A map would be helpful in Russell’s next role as Noah in Darren Aronofsky’s biblical epic about the eponymous ark builder responsible for keeping the circle of life afloat (no pun intended) after God decides to destroy the world to punish humanity for being terrible.
Mapping Our World exhibits some of the world’s earliest cartographical interpretations of the Australian continent and surrounding areas, and it runs from November 7 to March 10 2014. Listen to your boy Rusty. He knows maps.
