Julia Gillard Breaks Down Introducing NDIS Funding Legislation

Julia Gillard became emotional in parliament yesterday while introducing the funding legislation for the national disability insurance scheme (NDIS) which will support hundreds of thousands of Australians living with disabilities, their families and carers. The Prime Minister broke down during her speech confirming the proposed Medicare levy increase that will allow the disabled to better manage additional living costs for necessities such as customised wheelchairs, payment for carers, and extra financial assistance for families of disabled children.

The legislation will mean increasing the Medicare levy by half a percentage point from 1 July 2014, taking the Medicare Levy from 1.5 per cent of taxable income to 2 per cent – equating to approximately one dollar a day for average income earners. The initial proposal was a surprisingly contentious issue for some disgusting soulless douchelords people who took issue with having a modest percentage of their earnings go toward making a better life for hundreds of thousands of Australians with a significant and permanent disability.

When the Labor Government inevitably is ousted in the federal election this September, at least Julia Gillard will have the roll out of DisabilityCare Australia as one of the few credits to her legacy as PM.
