Josh Goot, Dion Lee Pull Out Of Fashion Week

Dion Lee and Josh Goot would have been two of the most anticipated shows at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) this year, so it’s a real bummer that the two fine Sydney designers announced their withdrawal from proceedings today.

Josh Goot‘s press agent released the following statement:

The decision reflects JOSH GOOT’s commitment to the design and development process, combined with the challenging timing of MBFWA on the fashion calendar.

Josh said: “This is the right decision for the Josh Goot brand, business and team. We’ve had an amazing response to Spring Summer 2012, and I think it’s important that we consolidate our position, rather than rush into a new collection to show at MBFWA. The entire studio and I want to focus on the new Resort collection without the distraction of a show.”

“I believe strongly in Australian Fashion Week as an important initiative that strengthens our domestic fashion story. I hope to participate in the event in the years to come.”

Dion Lee‘s team also released a statement:

Having recently executed a highly successful presentation at London Fashion Week in February and with intentions to show at London Fashion Week in September, the brand has decided to withdraw from the event in order to focus on the core activities of the business.

Says Lee, “I have presented solo shows at Australian Fashion Week for the past three years and each of these have been of great benefit to my business in terms of building its profile on a local and international level. I hope to return to the Australian show schedule in the near future.”

While it is a shame that the two won’t be showing at MBFWA, it sounds as though both are making a wise decision. Fashion fans would surely rather see such well-regarded designers produce collections worthy of their lofty reputations, instead of madly rushing to turn out a bunch of looks on the day that don’t meet expectations.

And let’s not forget there are a heckload of other sensational Australian fashion talent to look forward to. The Spring Summer 2012/13 Collections will take place April 30 to May 4, 2012, in Sydney and Pedestrian will be on site to keep you posted throughout.
