Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel’s Leaked Frat E-Mails Are A Parade Of Douchiness

I’ll bet he wishes emails were only around for 10 seconds and then gone forever. Evan Spiegel, the CEO of picture sharing app – and sexting carriage service – Snapchat was never likely to be the world’s most pleasant human, given the nature of his creation. But a series of leaked emails from his days as a Frat Boy reveals exactly how much of a straight-up douchebag he seems to be – or, at least how much of a douchebag he was during his time at University, which to be fair, wasn’t that long ago given that he’s currently only 23. Oh, god. Typing that last bit made me sad. 23? Twenty-three? Fuck.

The emails, obtained by gossip site ValleyWag, are from Spiegel’s days at Stanford University, during which he was a high ranking member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. The fraternity itself reportedly has something of a torrid reputation within the University, with allegations of alcohol and drug misuse. I know. On a University campus. What a shocker.
Spiegel’s emails however paint the picture of your quintessential bro frat member: boasting of weekend feats of misdoing, throwing the biggest parties, and liberal doses of profoundly misogynistic language and attitudes, and definitely includes one instance involving a play-by-play account of peeing on someone. Yeah.
There’s more, but I’ll let you read those for yourselves. Because I… I need a really hot shower now.
It’s entirely plausible to blame this on the mere folly of youth, but to write it off completely because of that is irresponsible. The shocking attitude displayed towards women in particular is of great concern, and is the kind of thing that needs addressing in more formative years to prevent it becoming habitual. But then again it’s entirely typical of the ‘bro’ culture that plagues the tech industry.
Either way, he’s 23 years old. I think it’s safe to suggest that he was a douche back then, and he’s probably still a douche now.
Except, y’know, now he’s got the money to justify it.
