While filming the first, cursed Suicide Squad movie back in 2015, it was claimed that Jared Leto gifted his co-stars a bunch of absurd ~presents~ which included handing Margot Robbie a rat in a box. Even thought Leto himself later denied he pulled such a feral prank on Our Margot, another co-star has claimed it did actually happen, because she was there.
Margot previously talked about the gifted rat (named Rat Rat) in an interview with Jimmy Fallon in 2016, saying she was initially pretty grossed out by the gift, but then decided to keep it as a pet.
“At first I thought this was disgusting. But then after that…I was like, I’m not going to kill him,” she said.
“So I ended up keeping him as a pet. I ended up getting him like a sweet little playpen, a slide, a hammock, and a leash because I wanted to take him to set and walk him around.
“But then our landlord at the place I was staying found out.”
In a new interview with British Vogue, Viola Davis backed up this tale as a witness to the whole ordeal. Honestly, her recount of the gifting lines up pretty well with Margot’s side of the rat story.
“I was saying loudly, ‘Don’t open the box!’ I was halfway out the door when she opened the box,” Davis said.
“And saw the biggest black rat you could imagine. Then… she cooed at it. No fear. Open. Receptive. Full of joy.”
This had happened one rehearsal when the whole cast has gathered together, so there were plenty of witnesses to Leto’s prank. Sorry buddy but your claims you’d actually given Margot Robbie a box of “vegan cinnamon rolls” and not a dead rat in that GQ interview is kinda falling over at this point.
